Concrete Services in Herbert

Herbert is a rural locality in the southern part of the Litchfield area, a little south of Humpty Doo and roughly 45 minutes or so from the Darwin CBD depending on where your block sits. It is a spread-out community of larger acreage blocks, bush properties and owner-built homes, often with long internal tracks, bores and workshops. Darwin Concrete Driveways travels to Herbert for concrete driveways, house surrounds, shed slabs and hardstands where a gravel track or dirt pad is no longer up to the job. If your works involve a new or altered entry onto a public road, check requirements with Litchfield Council first.

Distance and access shape almost every Herbert job. Concrete trucks need a firm, clear route in, and on a long bush track that can mean checking for soft spots, low branches and tight turns well before pour day. Where trucks cannot get close, a concrete pump or staged pours may be needed. Many owners here are building or extending sheds, so we pour concrete slabs to suit cyclone-rated shed designs, and lay concrete paths and aprons around the house to tame the mud. We plan levels with the wet season in mind, because water that sits beside a slab for weeks can cause trouble down the track.

Why work with us

Why Herbert Homeowners Call Us

Comfortable With Remote Blocks

Long tracks and out-of-the-way sites are part of working in Herbert. We plan logistics carefully so trucks, crews and materials arrive when needed, without wasted trips.

Owner-Builder Friendly

Many Herbert homes and sheds are owner-built. We are happy to work alongside you, follow your engineer's drawings and fit our work around the other stages of your project.

Strong Slabs for Real Loads

We build for what will actually sit on the concrete, whether that is a family car or a loaded truck. Thickness, reinforcement and base preparation are chosen to suit.

Wet Season Awareness

We know rural tracks can become impassable after heavy rain. We book pours with the forecast in mind and tell you early if timing needs to change.

Clear Scope and Pricing

Quotes set out travel, access, pumping and preparation costs so you can see where the money goes. If something on site could change the price, we raise it before work starts.

Practical, Durable Finishes

On working rural properties, a good broom finish is often the right choice. We recommend finishes that are safe, hard-wearing and easy to maintain, and keep decorative options for where they matter.

Common questions

Herbert Concrete FAQs

Here are answers to the questions Herbert property owners and owner-builders ask us most often.

Often it can, but it depends on the track. Loaded concrete trucks are heavy and need a firm surface, enough width and clearance from branches and power lines, and room to turn or reverse safely. After rain, soft sections can make access risky. We inspect the route during the site visit and, if needed, suggest improving the track, using a concrete pump or pouring in the dry season.

Many sheds in the NT require a building permit from a registered building certifier, and the slab and footings form part of the approved design for the cyclonic wind region. Smaller structures may be treated differently. Because the rules depend on size, use and siting, check with a certifier or your shed supplier before starting. We pour to the approved drawings once they are in place.

Yes. We regularly build from engineer's and shed supplier's drawings, including footing sizes, slab thickness, reinforcement and hold-down bolt positions. If anything on the drawings is unclear or does not suit site conditions, we raise it with you and your engineer before the pour rather than guessing.

The key is setting levels so the slab sits slightly above the surrounding ground and the ground falls away from it. Swales, spoon drains or a raised pad of compacted fill can all help, depending on the block. On flat rural land, it is worth thinking about where water flows across the property in heavy rain. We look at this before pouring so the slab does not end up in a low spot.

Travel time, longer truck runs and sometimes pumping can add to the cost compared with a suburban job, and larger areas use more concrete. On the other hand, rural jobs are often straightforward once access is sorted. We include travel and access in the written quote so you can see the full price before deciding.
