Our Concrete Sealing Work Around Darwin
Mould Defence for Shady Spots
Does the shady side of your house stay damp for days and go black with mould? A sealer that cuts down water absorption gives mould less to feed on, so those areas take longer to discolour and are easier to hose clean when they do.
Sealing for Coastal Homes
If you live near the water in Nightcliff, Fannie Bay, Cullen Bay or Larrakeyah, you will know how salt builds up on everything outside. Sealing slows salty moisture soaking into your concrete, helping your driveway, paths and patio last better near the foreshore.
Garage and Carport Floors
Oil, brake fluid and tyre marks soak fast into bare concrete. We apply a tough clear or tinted sealer that keeps spills on the surface so you can wipe them up, reduces dust settling on your stored things and makes the garage look far more finished.
Bringing Decorative Finishes Back
Stamped, coloured and pebble finishes lose their richness as UV bleaches the surface. A colour-enhancing sealer brings back the depth of the stone and pattern. You choose the sheen, from close to natural through to a deeper wet look.
Removing Old, Failed Sealer
If your old sealer has turned white, gone cloudy or is peeling in patches, we take it off first. Coating over a failing layer just traps the problem, so we strip it back with the right remover and start fresh on clean concrete.
Front Paths, Steps and Entries
Your front path, steps and porch see daily foot traffic, falling leaves and garden runoff. Sealing helps them resist dirt and tannin stains from overhanging trees, so the walk to your front door looks cared for between cleans.
Getting Your Concrete Sealed in Darwin: Three Simple Steps
Black mould, oil drips and faded colour show up quickly on unsealed concrete in Darwin, especially in damp, shady corners. A good sealer keeps your surfaces cleaner for longer, and getting started with us is easy.
- Photograph the problem areas: Snap the oil stains, mould or tyre marks and let us know if it is a driveway, patio or pool area.
- Get a surface check: We come out to see how porous your concrete is and whether any cracks or old coatings need sorting before sealing.
- Choose your finish: Decide between a natural low-sheen look or a glossier wet look that deepens colour, and we will explain the grip of each.
Sealing works best on properly clean concrete, so we pressure wash, treat mould and fix small defects before any product goes down. We will also tell you how often your surface is likely to need resealing in the Top End. Get in touch today and we will arrange a free quote for you.
Why Darwin Homeowners Choose Us for Sealing
We Trial A Small Area First
Some sealers darken concrete more than you might expect, especially colour enhancers on plain grey slabs. We seal a small, tucked-away spot first so you can see the colour change and sheen in daylight before we do the lot.
Breathable Options For Wet Ground
Slabs on low ground near Rapid Creek, Ludmilla Creek or the harbour mangroves can draw moisture up from underneath. There, we lean towards breathable sealers that let vapour out, so your finish does not lift or turn white in the wet.
Booked Around The Weather
Rain on fresh sealer leaves marks and soft spots. Where we can, we schedule sealing in the dry season, watch the radar closely through the build-up and would rather move your booking than rush to beat a storm.
Even Coats, No Puddling
Sealer that pools in hollows or goes on too thick is the first to go white and peel. We apply measured coats with the right roller or sprayer and back-roll as we go, keeping edges and joints just as even as the middle.
Your Property Protected
Overspray on render, garage doors or plants is hard to remove once it sets. We mask walls, cover gardens and tape off doorways first, then tell you clearly when you can walk and drive on the surface again.
We Wait For New Concrete To Dry
A freshly poured slab is still full of water, and in our humidity it dries out slowly. We wait until your concrete is ready, even if that means coming back, because sealing too early leaves a milky, cloudy finish.

Your Concrete Sealing Questions
Here is what Darwin homeowners most often ask us about sealing: how long it lasts, whether it prevents cracks, keeping grip in the wet, sealing old stained concrete and which type of sealer to use.
As a rough guide, every three to five years, but that varies a lot with sun, traffic and the type of sealer. A west-facing driveway cooking in the afternoon sun with cars on it daily will wear through faster than a covered patio. Penetrating sealers fade gradually, while film-forming sealers usually wear first in the tyre tracks. Here is an easy test: splash some water on the surface. If it beads up, the sealer is still doing its job. If it darkens the concrete and soaks in, it is time to reseal. Patchy colour, chalky-looking stones and mould returning quickly in shady spots are other signs to watch for.
Unfortunately not. Cracks come from the concrete shrinking as it cures, the ground moving underneath and loads heavier than the slab was designed for, and a surface coating cannot change any of that. Around Darwin, clayey or poorly drained ground that swells in the wet and shrinks in the dry is a common culprit. What sealing does do is reduce how much water gets into the concrete and any fine cracks, which slows surface wear and mould and, over the long term, helps keep moisture away from the steel. So it helps your slab age well, but if cracks are opening up, we need to look at the cause first.
Some can, particularly glossy film-forming sealers on smooth or honed concrete, and it is a fair worry for a driveway ramp or pool area after rain. There are good ways around it. We can add a fine anti-slip grit to the last coat, which you will hardly notice once it is dry but which gives shoes and tyres much better grip. A penetrating sealer barely changes how the surface feels, so it suits areas where grip matters most. Choosing a satin or matte finish instead of high gloss helps too. We will point out any spots at your place where we think grip should come before shine.
Usually, as long as the slab is sound, but the cleaning matters more than the sealer itself. Whatever is left on the surface gets locked in under the coat, so most of the work is degreasing oil marks, killing mould and lichen and, for tough stains, lightly grinding or etching to open the surface. Some old marks, like trailer rust or oil that has soaked in for years, may fade without fully disappearing, and we will tell you which ones before we start. If your concrete is stained all over but structurally fine, a resurfacing coat might be better value than cleaning and resealing.
A penetrating sealer soaks into the concrete and reacts inside the pores, reducing water absorption without leaving a visible coating. Your concrete keeps its natural look and feel, with no shine and nothing to peel, but it does not resist oil and food stains quite as well. A film-forming, or topical, sealer sits on the surface as a thin layer. It gives you better stain protection and can deepen colour or add a wet look, but it wears and will eventually need stripping or a careful recoat. Decorative finishes like exposed aggregate and coloured concrete usually suit a topical sealer, while a plain driveway you want looking natural often suits a penetrating one.
