How we can help

Our Concrete Grinding Work Around Darwin

Lifting Old Glue and Tile Beds

Pulled up the old flooring in your Darwin home and found vinyl glue, tile bedding or carpet adhesive welded to the slab? We grind it all off and leave clean, sound concrete that's ready for new tiles, timber, hybrid planks or a polished finish, without ridges telegraphing through.

Honed Grind and Seal

We grind the top of your slab just enough to reveal fine sand or a light scatter of stone, then seal it for a honed look. It works well in living areas, alfresco spaces and shops that want that polished concrete feel without paying for the full multi-step polishing process.

Trip Hazard Removal for Strata

Body corporates, schools and shopping centres ask us to grind down raised edges between path panels before anyone takes a tumble. We get through a whole site in one visit, mark each spot we've treated and can give you a short written list of locations for your maintenance file.

Stripping Coatings and Line Marking

Faded line marking, peeling epoxy and old floor paint ground off warehouse, workshop and car park floors so you can re-mark or recoat. Our large walk-behind machines cover open areas fast, so your business is back up and running sooner.

Reviving Weathered Outdoor Slabs

Seasons of tropical sun, heavy rain and mould leave outdoor concrete blotchy with a soft, powdery skin. A light grind takes that tired layer off to expose firmer concrete underneath, and a sealer then helps keep fresh stains and black mould at bay.

Chasing Out Cracks and Joints

We open cracks and joints with a diamond blade so a flexible sealant or repair mortar can be packed in properly. A clean, even channel lets the filler grab both sides, rather than sitting on the surface and popping out after the next storm.

Three Easy Ways to Book Concrete Grinding in Darwin

Bumpy slabs, raised edges and stubborn glue or paint can all be sorted with the right machine. Before we roll it in, any of these options helps us understand your floor and the finish you'd like.

  • Photograph the problem spots: Take close-ups of lips, raised joints or leftover coating, plus one wide shot so we can judge the size of the area.
  • Let us know what's going on top: Polished look, a key for epoxy, or just a safer surface? Your goal decides which diamonds and machines we use.
  • Book a floor inspection: We'll come out to check moisture, cracks and any existing coatings, then suggest a grinding depth and finish to match.

Darwin's humidity can affect how well a coating bonds after grinding, so we check moisture and timing before recommending a sealer or epoxy. Our dust-extracted machines help keep garages, shops and patios cleaner while we work. Send us a few photos or give us a call, and we'll arrange your free quote.

Why work with us

Why Darwin Clients Call Us for Concrete Grinding

Every Edge Ground By Hand

Big floor grinders can't reach right up to walls, steps and columns, and that leftover strip is usually where a coating starts peeling first. We follow up with hand grinders along every edge and into every corner, so your entire floor gets the same preparation.

Profile To Suit The Next Coat

Each coating and overlay brand sets out how rough the concrete needs to be for a solid bond. We grind to that requirement and check it as we work, rather than giving every floor the same finish no matter what's going on top.

A Sample Patch To Start

With grind and seal or exposed finishes, nobody can say exactly what's hiding under the surface until it's opened. We grind a small trial area first, so you can see the stone, colour and texture before we commit to the whole floor.

We Leave Your Place Tidy

We mask skirting boards, door frames and fittings before starting, and we vacuum the floor when we're done. When we pack up, you're left with a prepared slab, not a fine grey film over everything in the room.

Scheduled Around Your Business

Can't close the shop, office or building for a day? We can grind in stages, or come in early mornings and on weekends where noise rules permit, so your customers and residents barely notice we're there.

Honest About What Grinding Can Do

Grinding can smooth and clean up a surface, but it won't raise a sunken slab or fix a structural crack. If the issue goes deeper than that, we'll explain what's happening and steer you towards the repair that will actually sort it out.

Common questions

Your Grinding Questions Answered

What Darwin customers ask us about grinding: flattening uneven floors, keeping silica dust down, protecting your slab and why prep matters before a coating.

Often, but it depends on how uneven the floor is and why. Grinding removes concrete, so it's great for taking down high spots, lipped joints and rough trowel marks to meet the lower areas. What it can't do is fill a hollow. If your floor has a real dip, or part of the slab has sunk, grinding it flat would mean taking off far too much concrete. In that case we usually grind the high points and then use a self-levelling compound or an overlay to bring up the low ones. We check the floor with a long straightedge and a level first, so you know which approach suits and what finish to expect.

Without proper extraction, a lot, and it's more than just messy. Concrete contains crystalline silica, and the very fine dust that grinding throws up can lead to serious lung disease with repeated exposure. Our grinders are hooked up to industrial vacuums with high-efficiency filters, and we seal off indoor work areas, which keeps dust down enough to grind inside a home you're living in. NT WorkSafe treats silica as a serious workplace hazard, and our team wears suitable respiratory protection on every job. Whoever grinds concrete for you should be doing the same.

Not if it's done with the right diamonds and a sensible depth. The real danger is grinding too deep and thinning the concrete that protects the steel reinforcement. Less cover lets moisture and air reach the steel, which can rust, expand and crack the concrete above it. That's a bigger worry on outdoor slabs that soak up wet-season rain and in salty coastal suburbs like Nightcliff, Fannie Bay and Cullen Bay. We estimate the likely cover before we start and keep well away from the steel. On thin or already worn slabs we take off less, and we'll tell you straight if the look you're after would mean grinding deeper than is safe.

Yes, because a coating can only ever be as good as its grip on the concrete. Epoxies, sealers and overlays key into the surface, so a shiny, previously sealed or contaminated slab gives them very little to hang on to. Grinding strips off the weak top skin and any old sealer, paint, oil, glue or curing compound, then leaves the texture the manufacturer asks for. Rushed or skipped prep is the main reason coatings peel and lift, and once that starts the only real fix is grinding everything back and starting again. Spending a day on proper preparation costs much less than doing the floor twice.

Absolutely. Outside, we grind down trip lips on paths, knock the slippery shine off over-trowelled surfaces, flatten panels pushed up by fig roots or moving ground, and prepare driveways, patios and pool surrounds for sealers or overlays. We still use extraction outdoors so dust doesn't land on your car, windows or the neighbour's washing, and we keep slurry out of the stormwater. Keep in mind that a freshly ground patch looks different from the weathered concrete around it, so a small spot on an old driveway may stand out. Grinding a bigger area, or sealing afterwards, helps it blend.
